I don't use VPN but just to be sure, I just tried what you did and the screen is not greyed out, so..... Can you tell us a little more about the machine - is it already internet connected, hooked up to a LAN, etc. etc. Whatever you can think of might be helpful. Obviously something is telling the OS not to go there.....

    Re: VPN (XP Pro)

While waiting for you to come back, I was just poking around in the XP Help screens and saw this:

If you have an active Winsock Proxy client, you cannot create a VPN. A Winsock Proxy client immediately redirects data to a configured proxy server before the data can be processed in the fashion required by a VPN. To establish a VPN, you should disable the Winsock Proxy client.

Don't know if that applies or not.

In addition, you might want to take a peek at <!post=this short thread,308784>this short thread<!/post> in case you want to consider an alternative route.

    Hi Big Al

Nice to hear from you again

I don't have a winsock proxy client, I had no problems with this before I reinstalled windows xp, the other problem I had restore didn't load, HansV showed me how install that from the inf file in windir, I thought this might be a similar problem.

    Regards

That rings a bell. Unable to use dialup after restoring Windows XP - I can't find the article at the moment but I think there was a patch for this - I'll keep looking.

I can't find the article, but accoding to the notes I made at the time I fixed this problem on my PC by installing Windows XP SP1
