    Bernie

    Some random thoughts--

    1) It doesn't matter which DVD system you get, if you are only going to use the results on your machine!

    2) You could always get one which supports all the available DVD??? systems (there are a number of nice Sony DVD burners...)

    3) Googling for info give me several systems, something for DVD+R and DVD+RW, and a DVD FAQ.

    4) SMBP <img src=/S/fanfare.gif border=0 alt=fanfare width=31 height=23> will, undoubtedly, add many tens of references to the above!! <img src=/S/whisper.gif border=0 alt=whisper width=29 height=17>

Just a little from Tech TV who has made it a point to try to track the DVD formats that are still emerging Bernie, John--

The Somewhat Confusing World of DVD Standards Basic Links on Bottom of Article

    DVD Format Wars

Update: Multiformat DVD Recorders--Also See Links Bottom

and how could we leave out the very informative

DVD FAQ: Scroll on Down for Good Discussion of the Formats Plus, Minus, Ect.

    DVD Players for Video Snobs

    Hot New DVD's

I would say Bernie it helps visit Tech TV's site every so often because they will be following DVD technology and reviewing and comparing players and recorders. Just search it for DVD--and you can search all their archives (2nd search) and be reading through Christmas.

By the time I finish reading it all they will most likely come out with a new format. <img src=/S/read.gif border=0 alt=read width=19 height=33>
Seriously, I thank you both for the input.

    Re: DVD- DVD+

Scroll way down in that FAQ and they cover DVD+ and DVD- well as does Tech TV. Tech TV is making it a point to cover DVD burners since they are obviously one of the next big things to get easy to use and come down in price so everyone has to have one. Also check out their Fresh Gear Site which is great for keeping up with all the latest hardware gadgets--they have a lab staff who writes very usable on the street reviews and covers cost closely.
