    Google Ads (Claude)

    "Naturally, the more you click on them, the more it helps us"

    I am lost without the search function.

    Am I to understand that just CLICKING on an ad will generate revenue for the lounge?

    If so, what do I care? Why then don't we be urged to click away during a boring telephone conversation ("uh-huh (click), you don't say (click) right (click),.....")

    Or do I actually have to PURCHASE a baby gorilla after clicking on the ad in order to score another coupon towards a new server?

    From what I understand it's just clicking on the ads... no baby gorilla for you... unless you want one to have a boring phone conversation with... <img src=/S/grin.gif border=0 alt=grin width=15 height=15>

    OK.

    So in the Browser of choice, it's "Click, Back, Click, Back", and get on with life.

    (Thinks: There MUST be a way to automate this in Office97 .....)

    As I understand it, the revenue from a single click is very small. But the revenue from a few thousand clicks can make up the relatively small amount need to run the lounge.

    I don't know if pressing "F5" on the target page repeatedly will increase the click count. I think that will depend on how it's set up.

    Funny it doesn't work on the ads in the lounge, but it does work on other links (i.e. opens new window in background). My apologies

    Thank God for the Google Ads. Can I send you a donation? Really, the lounge is USELESS to me without the Search function. No offense to any of the fine folks I was getting to know so well from my posts. Note that my postings virtually STOPPED when the Search function was disabled.

    Re: Google Ads (Claude)

    Try using your middle button click to open in a new window, set to open in the background, and then use the 'Close All Except The Current' feature. Just worked great with my setup, though it took a bit of fussing to allow Proxomitron to show the ads (instead of just an empty white box).

    If you use Proxomitron, here are the entries that I made in my Bypass List to get the ads to show:
    <pre>[^/]++.woodyswatch.com/*
    [^/]++.googlesyndication.com/*</pre>

    The bypass on woodyswatch allowed the ads to show, but the ads were distorted until the google bypass was added.

    We have a lot of posts in these forums each day; maybe if we encouraged every poster to click on at least one ad before finalizing their post? It would be interesting to see how much revenue just this simple little effort could generate to keep the Lounge operating.

    seven years too many!

    > Can I send you a donation? Really, the lounge is USELESS to me without the Search function.

    I endorse this post completely.

    A few months ago i had no spare cash, at all.

    Now I have a bit.

    I could endorse a small cheque.

    I have pretty well avoided the lounge because I *know* the information is posted, yet I don't want to use other people's time to do my work (serach, remember, etc) for me.

    Might you post here, or in a private email, just how much IS needed?

    I'd feel kinda mad if I found out that we searchers were suffering all for the want of $500. ( I know that won't be it.)

    If you don't get my money, either PBS (WNED-17 Buffalo) or CJRT-Jazz (91.1FM Toronto) will get it.

    ALSO: No offense intended to those who feel that THEY don't have cash to spare. That's why Ii said what i said up above. I know how it feels.

    Let's Go.

    Seven years (seems like)) without a search engine is seven years too many!

    Not wanting to take away from the subject of the thread, Chris, but I'm not empowered to answer the question anyway. But I'm curious about why your posts always seem to be "double spaced." Is there some setting you have enabled in your browser that causes that? I only ask, hopefully not to offend, because it's a bit disconcerting to read a post of a somewhat longer vein when it's double or triple spaced.

    No offense, and thanks for asking; it's probably annoying to other loungers.
    I seem to have dropped into a (bad) habit of tapping the <Return> key while cogitating.

    I have since strapped a 33,000V DC source to the Enter key to dissuade me from

    Now what we need is somebody out there, smarter than me, who can set it up so when you do a search, you automatically open a new window (in the background) one of the add pages. I would opt-in to such a function!
