Continue Numbered List (2002)

After pasting a pic in Word doc, the auto numbered list "numbering" is turned off. To restart the numbering, I click
Formatting | Bullets and Numbering, pick the numbering scheme, make sure the "continue previous list" radio button is selected
and click Ok. TeedeeUS!

Is there a keyboard shortcut for this?

I don't use much auto numbering, but I think I'd try copying and pasting the last two numbered paragraphs preceding the picture...

Can you record a macro, spruce it up a bit and assign a keyboard shortcut to it?

Re: Continue Numbered List (2002)

I was hoping there was just a built-in short cut for reapplying numbering, but if this is it, well, then,
yes, I could write the macro and put it on a key.

Re: Continue Numbered List (2002)

I could even use the Format painter and just copy the formatting from the last numbered paragraph above;
but I wanted something even easier. Picky, huh?

Have you look at what you can do by using the "Right click" in any paragraph?
You would be surprised as what has been added.

Assuming you used a style to get the numbered list elements in the first place then a Ctrl-Q, Ctrl-Space will allow the numbering to continue from the previous one.

Re: Continue Numbered List (2002)

Hi Kevin:
If you are using a numbered style, you could assign that style to a keyboard shortcut. e.g. If you were using Heading 1 styles, you could just press Alt+Shift+Left arrow to change to the style & continue numbering.
Cheers,

Ok. That was pretty good -- faster access to the Bullets and Numbering menu.
Thanks Dave.

Re: Continue Numbered List (2002)

Ok, thanks Phil. I'm reading through all the shortcut keys (again!) to find this Alt+Shift+Left. Where do you find this stuff?

Thanks Andrew. I didn't use a style (except Normal), but I know I should have now...

Re: Continue Numbered List (2002)

You mean Alt-F8, Macros, right?. I remember that list from years ago, but could not remember how to get at it. Thanks. And that late entry from your steel trap of a memory is another good tip. Load up the format painter and use it from paragraph to paragraph...

(Edited by Phil Rabichow on 05-Nov-03 14:39. I meant Alt+F8, not F8)
Hi Kevin:
Just press F8 & go to Word Commands & then look for ListCommands. This will create a table of ALL shortcut keys in Word, including ones you've customized.

Oh, I just thought of something else! If you place your cursor in one of the numbered paragraphs & press Ctrl+Shift+C, you copy the formatting. This is sticky...just like the clipboard. So if you paste a picture & lose your numbering, just press Ctrl+Shift+V (paste formatting) & your normal paragraph will continue the list. It's sort of like hitting the Format Painter twice, but doesn't take control of your mouse. Then you can keep pasting whenever you want & then press Ctrl+Shift+V.

Er, yes. I meant Alt+F8. Apparently, the steel trap isn't stainless...
