    constant 'cc' in e-mails (2000/SP 3)

I saw this in another forum and knew I could find the answer here <img src=/S/clever.gif border=0 alt=clever width=15 height=15>

<hr>Hi, does anyone know if this is possible? I would like to automatically have the "cc" line populate and address every time I click reply to an email. Example: I want to copy Joe Smith on everything I send regardless of who it is to. Now I have to type in the "To" line and Joe's address in the "cc" line. I don't want to type Joe's address 50 times a day. It is a pain! Can I set Outlook to automatically put Joe's address on the line?

Tools | Rules | check "Check messages after Sending" | skip the next dialog, which means it will apply to all sent mail | check "CC the message to <font color=blue>people or distribution list</font color=blue>"; in the Rule dialog box underneath, click on and fill in the <font color=blue>underlined section</font color=blue> with the people or person to whom the CC should go | name the Rule | Finish | OK out.

It's possible to do this with a macro. One method is to use "SendKeys" to type the information into the cc field; a bit error prone. The other method is to assign the cc field directly using code. However, Outlook "protects" that and the other address fields with an annoying security prompt. I wouldn't recommend either of these methods if you find another solution that works for you.

    Thanks for the reply. Don't you think John's idea would work <img src=/S/confused.gif border=0 alt=confused width=15 height=20>

I express no opinion on that (I'd have to try it out to understand it). Was just giving you some options for adding the CC to the message before it gets sent, and the drawbacks to those options.

In re-reading the original message, I remembered another option: you can create a customized form for new messages that contains addressees, boilerplate text, all sorts of stuff. You can create a new message based on this form using the menus. To make it the default form for Ctrl+N is more work and I wasn't happy with the results, myself.

Last option is a template (OFT) saved in the file system. Not good for an "every message" situation because they're more arduous to access from inside Outlook; more useful for an occasional need.

On a careful read of your original post, I didn't quite match your request. You asked for an automatic CC on any -reply-. The Rule I provided (which I tested and which seemed to work) will auto CC -all- messages you send, including original messages and forwards. You can probably get around this by checking the rule condition for certain words in the Subject, looking for "RE:" in the Subject Line. It won't be quite pefect, for example it will run if you are forwarding a Reply from someone else.

Thank you both for the clarifications. I'll share your thoughts with the original inquirer.
