Meta data? on saved documents (Word 2000/9.0)

When I save a document in Word it now appends all kinds of info to the bottom of the document. It kind of looks like Meta data to me. The info doesn't show up until the doc is saved and shows up on all of my saved docs. Here is an example of some of the info. It's each on one line and mostly it's in duplicate.
    Normal
    Default paragraph fault
    Document name and path
    My name
    Times New Roman
    Symbol
    Georgia
    first line of text
    My name
    Normal.dot
    Microsoft Word 8.0
    Root entry
    Word document
    DocumentSummaryInformation
    CompObj
    MSWordDoc
    Word.Document.8

    How do I fix this?

You probably selected "Retrieve text from any file" in the Files of Type box in the Open Dialog. Change it to "All Word documents" and things should be back to normal.

In the U.S. English version, that filter is called "Recover Text from any file (*.*)" (HansV was translating from the Dutch version - very close!).

Go to File/Open & scroll down to Files of types. You have "reccover text from any file" turned on. This is a sticky setting. Change it to Word files, all files, etc. & reopen the document.
    Cheers,

    Phil,

Thanks so much for noticing that. I have no idea how that "Recover files..." listing got set. I'd never changed anything.

Actually, after posting my inquiry here, I remembered that I'd done a backup on Saturday, and just recovered all my document files. Most of them look fine, though one folder was still stripped of formatting. I made the change you suggested above, and they seem returned to normal.

I have no idea what caused the problem in the first place, but I'm breathing a touch easier now. And thanks again very much for you assistance.

    Robert
