Norton Systemworks 2003 (Win XP Home /SR 1a)

Full install of WinXP. After installing Norton Systemworks 2003 PC takes 25 minutes to go past opening screen showing BIOS details and then a further 10 minutes before WinXP loads. Have uninstalled Norton Systemworks, but problem persists. Checked Symantec Knowledge Base, could not find a solution.

Any assistance will be appreciated

<img src=/S/hello.gif border=0 alt=hello width=25 height=29> I am probably no help, but I have at least 5 clients running XP Home and or XP Pro with Systemworks 2003, and none of them have this problem. I have a different O/S on my home computer, but have been happy with Systemworks on it for a couple of years. Let us know how you get along, it would be interesting to find out if there are others with this problem.

The problem began after you installed Norton System Works, but it's not in now, and probably was not because you installed NSW. I'd look elsewhere for the cause. Why not use System Restore to a restore point before the problem began and see if that helps. You can also run Adaware, Spybot with links Post 296439.

You can get a list of the programs you have installed by downloading Belarc.
In addition, I would trouble shoot your startup with the msconfig utility Start/Run/Msconfig/Startup

Also you can go to the registry:

Start/Run/Regedit. Right Click/Delete unnecessary programs listed here:

Disable Run Commands Specified in the Registry

Value Name: DisableLocalMachineRun, DisableLocalMachineRunOnce, DisableCurrentUserRun, DisableCurrentUserRunOnce

Data Type: REG_DWORD (DWORD Value)
Value Data: (0 = enable run, 1 = disable run)

Create a new DWORD value for each of the optional values above depending on which Run function to stop and set the value to "1" to disable. Restart Windows for change to take effect.

To remove programs that are listed in the Start Menu:

Or to ban them: Start/Run/Regedit

Right-click the String Value AddRemoveApps, and select Modify
Add the name of the programs executable at the end of the Value data, make sure that the name is preceded by a semicolon ([img]/forums/images/smilies/wink.gif[/img]. Exit/Reboot.

To make sure you don't have unnecessary processes going, as well as check the Procecess tab in task manager, and use Black Viper's XP Service Configurations to assist you.

How to Modify the List of Programs that Run When You Start Windows

To disable unneeded startup services for a safer, faster XP, use the "Services" Admin Tool (Control Panel/Administrative Tools/Services). If you are a single user of a non-networked machine, you can disable the following items, with no ill effect:
