    Referencing Paragraph Numbers (2002)

In my table of contents and table of cases, I need to reference paragraph numbers (defined by a style) rather than the page number. <img src=/S/confused.gif border=0 alt=confused width=15 height=20> Could someone please let me know if this is possible?

    Thanks,
    Missy

    Hi Missy:
If you go to Insert/Cross-References, a dialog box opens up. You should have an option to cross reference any numbered paragraph with the number only. I'm using Word 2000, so the location may have changed slightly.
    Cheers,

    Re: Referencing Paragraph Numbers (2002)

I did look at that option but it is a supreme court brief and the table of cases is going to get pretty lengthy with the same case cited many times. I was hoping there was a way to edit the built in table of cases form somehow.

Or is there anywhere in particular that might list add-ins that have been designed for law firms? All published opinions are going to this format so I am sure I am not the only one trying to do this.

    Thanks Phil,
    Missy

    Hi Missy:
I'm not aware of add-ins, although I am sure there are some. You might check a site by Charles Kenyon, a lawyer who has links to many other sites. It's over here. I'm not sure what you're trying to do. Do you mean that the Table of Authorities feature isn't what you want?

Perhaps Word 2002 has a switch for the TOA...I don't know. You could go to Insert/Field.../ scroll for the Authorities & press the Options button. This should give you a list of switches. If you select the switch or press F1, should should see an explanation for each switch.
    Hope this helps,

The Table of Authorities is what I want but it references the page number and I need it to reference the paragraph number. I have checked with switches for the field codes and they all assume referencing the page number. I will check Charles Kenyon's site. Thanks for your help.
