Running Page Number total in Word 2000

I'm not sure if this is an identified bug - When i insert a comment such as "Page # of ##" in my footer, under Word97 the numbers update and print correctly, and display properly if I do an F9 update. Under Word 2000, the numbers display porperly, but whenever I print, the running total page number (which should show the total number of pages) matches the actual page number being printed. For example, 3 pages will print: Page 1 of 1; Page 2 of 2; Page 3 of 3.

Saving and then opening the document under Word 97 doesn't affect the information, i.e., I get proper page numbering when printing.

I have the features set to automatically update fields when opening a document, and when printing a document.

Is this a "new" bug, or has it been reported and fixed in a service release I may not yet have?

    No, it's not new.
    Yes, it's a bug.
Yes, it has been reported & fixed in SR -1a.

In the meantime, try turning off background printing, turning off show/hide, . If your printer supports reverse printing, set the printer to reverse & go to Tools/Options/Print & choose reverse order, specify a page range. Reverse printing will force Word to calculate the page number.

    To get SR-1a, see <A target="_blank" HREF=http://support.microsoft.com/support/kb/articles/Q245/0/25.ASP>How to Obtain and Install the Microsoft Office 2000 SR-1/SR-1a Update</A>

    Hope this helps.
