Puzzelling tab key action on login screen

I started to notice this 2-3 weeks ago, but thought it was caused by something I was doing. Over the last couple of days I have taken a little more notice and am now sure I am not the cause.

When I try to access the Lounge from the main login screen: http://www.wopr.com/cgi-bin/w3t/login.pl?Cat= (I know this isn't an active link, I don't want to log you out by accident), and hit the tab key to go from the User Id to the Password box the cursor skips to the Address bar (at the top of the screen). But it doesn't do this if I point and click on the User Id box first.

No stress, but if anyone knows what I've done to cause this to happen I would be very interested to hear.

TIA

Re: Puzzelling tab key action on login screen

I just tried this to see if I could reproduce it.
When the page first displays the cursor is in the address bar,
It takes about 20 tabs to get to the UserID box (stopping at each flag on the way).
I then filled in the username and the next tab took me to the password text box.

So no help there then, but I'm intrigued - do you have to type about 20 tabs before entering the username?

No, the cursor always(?), at Least when I've noticed, is positioned in the Username box. I've just logged out to confirm and the tab worked properly, as in it skipped to the Password box. This is getting really intriguing!

Tools > Internet Options > Advanced
Do you have "Move system caret with focus/selection changes" selected?
(I don't have the problem here...)

No, that check box is clear. Do you know which is the correct setting?

What really puzzles me is that there doesn't seem to be any consistency to how it works.

(Sorry to be so long in replying...)

The 'correct' setting is a matter of individual preference! Personally I dislike having it selected as it is liable to move the cursor focus to the last place I expect it to be!

Otherwise, I'm at a total loss as to why you are getting the behaviour you describe.....

I'm about to do a clean build of my laptop, so I'll see what happens then. Maybe it was some sort of corruption. I'll post back here with the outcome.
