    Gray Chart (Excel 2002)

I have a question about excel. One of my students built a simple chart based on a simple excel document (the same as 90 others) and when you click off it to do something else on the spreadsheet it turns all gray. But when your click back on the chart it shows up. Any idea what he might have dome to get this to happen? Is it possibly some kind of hiding? I'm clueless.

If you select the chart by clicking on it once, what does the Formula bar display?

If the attached behaves in a similar way to your student's worksheet and chart then they have:
-created the chart in one workbook
    -copied it
-used paste special to put it into new workbook

If you select the grey chart in my example you will see the formula bar displays =EMBED("Excel.Chart.8",""). This is why Hans asked you to check this.

    (not) stuck
