    Add file link (A2002)

    Hello All,
    I have something I would like to try but I am unsure of how to go about it. The scenario is this:

    Field service tech does a call at a customer site. He then fills out his "paperwork" online using this DB. He then scans his expense receipts into something like a word doc. From there, I need to upload that word doc to a controlled location, possibly re-name the file to something that means something to the DB, and add a link to that file into a field in a table. has anyone done anything like this before?

    Thanks,
    Mark

    Not sure about the uploading. Is this by modem, or LAN, or ...?

    You can either use a hyperlink field or a standard text field in a table to store the path and filename of the uploaded document.

    Re: Add file link (A2002)

    The files are usually around 100-200K in size and they already e-mail them to the admin person. So, this process would save the step of e-mailing. Most of the people have a DSL connection so normal documents should be a snap to upload. I need a dialog to open that asks where the file is, allows the user to browse to that location, and then for the code to automatically re-name the file and put it away.. What kind of file dialog things should I be looking at?

    Thanks,
    Mark

    If all users have Access 2002 (XP) or higher, you can use the new FileDialog that was introduced in A2002. Here is some sample code. In reality, you wouldn't have a fixed new file name ("Test.doc") but a dynamically created one.

    Dim strFile As String
    With FileDialog(msoFileDialogFilePicker)
    .Filters.Add "Word documents", "*.doc", 1
    .Title = "Select a document"
    If .Show = True Then
    strFile = .SelectedItems(1)
    Name strFile As "Test.doc"
    End If
    End With

    Thanks Man, I'll give that a try and get back to you.

    BTW, they are all running Office XP.

    I believe that requires a reference to the Office 10 object library, however.

    FileDialog is a property of the Access application object, but constants such as msoFileDialogFilePicker are part of the Microsoft Office 10.0 Object Library, so yo do need a reference if you want to use those constants.
