    Auto Number outgoing Messages (2K)

I am sure there is a way to auto number all the outgoing messages to a specific address or different numbering for different addresses?
    Any ideas or code.
    Thanks

There is probably a way, but I recently had a polite argument with Wassim that for sorting & tracking purposes a user should be able to use the creation date (which includes time) of a message without any further system. Between creation date and Outlook filtering, you should be able to track messages without adding a numbering scheme. Can you explain a bit more about the objective?

Both my boss are not so savvy. They are nervous that some messages are not getting through, and they are not communicating. I just started starting getting messages that are hand numbered, each day starting again with #1. I am afraid that HE will get confused, and there will be mass confusion. Suggesting filtering and sorting is beyond them. Therefore if there was something automatic it would fly.

Are the messages to be tracked within the company or are they going outsde the Company? Are you all on Exchange Server, and can you talk to Server Admin? One option is to have your bosses machines set Tools | Options | Email Options | Tracking Options, -check- the box for "Request a delivery Receipt for all messages I send", and if they want , they can also check the "Read Receipt" box. Further, if the messages are inside the compnay, the Server Administrator can set a system wide flag where all mailboxes on the server are forced to "Always Send A Response" in the same dialog. However, there are limitations with these tracking capabilities for people who don't use Microsoft based mail clients, and I don't know all the permutations for non-MS mail environments.

The offices are on different continents, and one person is using Outlook and the other is going through AOL. There is no exchange server (I wish!). Just using Read receipt is a good idea, I will suggest that. Thanks
BTW I agree with your general approach. Instead of writing new code, and complicating things, let us use what we have. Thanks for that general insight.

Just as a footnote, some spam filters view sequence numbers as evidence of junk mail (most junk mail databases use numeric keys to track recipients). Adding numbering to the subject line or the end of the message therefore could lead to message loss or delayed delivery. Just the opposite of what was intended!
