Access Error - Unknown (XP / 2002)

When I open an existing database, and try to open a table I get a very blunt message - the exclamation mark in a yellow triangle followed by 'Unknown'. There are no error numbers or any indication of the cause. I have tried repairing the installation (I used the option on the install disc) but with no success. I have installed two pieces of software recently (MYOB Business Basics and a driver for a Targus USB to Serial connector) and don't know whether they could be the cause but would have thought that the repair process would have fixed any glitches.

Any help would be appreciated.

Since first submitting this post, I've uninstalled the most recently installed software and have reinstalled Office from the CD.

Still no go!!

Do you have this problem for a specific existing database or for all existing databases?

I tried opening tables in a couple of existing databases. I then created a new database and created a simple table. When I tried to open it to input data I got the same message.

Thanks, that rules out database corruption. You may have to re-register one of the Jet dll's. See ACC2002: "Unknown" Error Message When You Open a Table for details.

One question, Do you know why the DLL wasn't registered during the reinstallation?

No, it seems to be a matter of "s**t will happen". In theory, the installation procedure should check this, but apparently it doesn't...
