    Reviewing toolbar (2002 SP-2)

Very often when I open an existing document or start a new one, the Reviewing toolbar shows up. It's not in the templates I use, as I was careful to hide the Reviewing toolbar when I saved them. And it is not all the time, only sometimes. I do not want the Reviewing toolbar to be visible. Does anyone have a clue about is going on here?

    You can use this macro:

    Sub BanishReviewingToolbar
    CommandBars("Reviewing").Enabled = False
    End Sub

It will send the reviewing toolbar to limbo for a while. Chances are, it will jump out at you again sometime. Just run the macro again. If you ever need the toolbar, the same code with True instead of False will enable the toolbar again:

    Sub RestoreReviewingToolbar
    CommandBars("Reviewing").Enabled = True
    End Sub

    Re: Reviewing toolbar (2002 SP-2)

    Hi Bill:
I don't know if this is related, but I seem to recall that if you receive a Word document by email, there are custom properties that start with an underscore. These properties are added on the assumption that most documents routed by email are for the purpose of reviewing & changing. Hence the reviewing toolbar. Removing those properties should prevent the behavior in those documents.

See Do you want to Merge Changes?
    Cheers,

I gave in and just docked the toolbar permanently. It doesn't pop up randomly, and I customized it to add back the "old" Accept or Reject changes dialog. Now everyone's happy. <img src=/S/smile.gif border=0 alt=smile width=15 height=15>

How did you customize it to get the old Accept and Reject changes dialog? Most of my users understood the old way, but they don't like the new icons.

    Thanks,
    Becky

    Re: Reviewing toolbar (2002 SP-2)

It has a rather unintuitive name...

Open the Customize dialog (Tools>Customize... or right-click the toolbar area, Customize...) to the Commands tab, All Commands list, and drag ToolsReviewRevisions to the desired location. Then remove the & from the toolbar button caption to avoid interference with the Table menu. See the attached illustration. Hope this helps.
