'Out of Office Assistant' (97 upwards)

Is there any way to set this up, when you're Out of the Office, so that

    * "internal" users get the message saying that you're on holiday

    * "external" users (almost always spammers) don't get any response at all?

I can't see any obvious way of distinguishing between these...

    Thanks!

This a setting the Exchange admin can specify. See <!mskb=262352>Microsoft Knowledge Base Article 262352<!/mskb> (Exchange 2000) and <!mskb=176161>Microsoft Knowledge Base Article 176161<!/mskb> (Exchange 4 / 5).

    Thanks very much, Hans!

Unfortunately my Exchange Administrator says that because of the way Exchange has been set up here, this setting would cause "some things to stop working" (I'm being a bit vague here, largely through my Exchange Ignorance!), so it can't be made. [sob]

Did he tell you what those things would be? Most admins disable it for security reasons and I thought it's off by default on Exchange 2000/2003.

    Mary

The setting in fact allows "Out of Office" messages to go both internally and externally! I shall have to inquire why disallowing messages externally would cause problems. It doesn't surprise me since we have a fairly complex system and link to more Exchange servers than you ever thought possible, at our parent company...

Sounds to me like the setting is controlled via the parent company set-up and your local Exchange Admin's only "control" would be the equivalent of pulling a plug out of the wall! <img src=/S/grin.gif border=0 alt=grin width=15 height=15>
