Word to PDF: missing text in shaded table cells (2002 SP-2)

I hope this Word-to-PDF question is appropriate for a Word forum, since I haven't found a PDF forum of comparable quality.

Using PDFMaker, the Word macro toolbar that comes with Acrobat 6.0...

I have a table to whose heading row I have added shading at 10% gray. When I print the Word doc, all is well. But when I convert to PDF and print, the text in the heading row disappears...or maybe it's just hidden under the shading? In any case, I can't see it on the printout, even though it's visible in Print Preview.

This doesn't happen with every printer I try on our work network, only some of them. It also varies with different users' computers.

Any enlightenment on this problem (including, perhaps, reference to a primer on PostScript and/or printer drivers...it's hard to find basic, practical explanations) would be deeply appreciated.

    Thanks,
    Erik

I haven't upgraded to from Acrobat 5 to 6 yet, but I can think of at two potential explanations...(if Adobe hasn't fixed the problem). If you are willing to send me sample files, I'd be game to take a look at them.

It would be best to keep the discussion in the Lounge. Please see <!rule=10>Rule 10<!/rule>.

    Hi Erik,

Is this a problem with creating the PDFs, or just viewing/printing them?

If it's a problem with creating the PDFs, it may well be a printer driver issue, to do with settings like "print type over graphics" or "use vector graphics" etc. Check the settings for the printers that work correctly, and those that don't.

If it's a problem withviewing/printing the PDFs, you may need to change the print setup on the adobe acrobat (readers) on the affected PCs to "print as image"

    Cheers

Apologies Phil, the intent of the request was to ask eschwab POST (not send) the files. The hand is faster than the brain...

Sorry, I'm used to boards that don't permit attachments so I didn't think to post (although the option is clear). A sample Word file is attached. Many thanks.
