    Scan Registry Vs.Regclean4.1a

Under ME O/S,System information>Tools>Scan Registry,my question is:What is the difference between this Scan of registry,(which I believe does repairs also) and the Microsft utility RegClean 4.1a? Would you recommend the use of Regclean to clean out the registry say once a month,or use the Scan tool in System information to do the same thing? Or does it?
Regclean I believe creates a registry backup before it cleans, and if need be that backup will put the registry back to where it was before "Regclean" cleaned it? Need some good input here, appreciate any help or recommendations for keeping registry clean.Tnx,

    Re: Scan Registry Vs.Regclean4.1a

I'd use the utility built in to Windows for registry scans. RegClean is no longer a supported tool from Microsoft (and its backups didn't always work). Personally, unless I have a valid reason, I don't fiddle with registry cleanups because you can do more harm than good. "Cleaning" the registry t make a noticeable impact on system performance....the only way to truly clean it out is to perform a clean install of Windows periodically.

Better yet, if you're interested in maintenance, check into purchasing a copy of Norton SystemWorks. It includes several cleanup and maintenance tools (including a registry scanner) and can run them all automatically for you. It's a very solid package and well worth the purchase.

Thanks again Mark, appreciate the solid input and I'll take your advice.I also from time to time use "Mcafee's"System optomizer" on line to clean out shortcuts in registry etc.Seems to always do a fine job and yes the registry I stay away from completly.Just trying to understand the most no n severe way to once in a while clean it up.Will look into Norton System works.
    Thank you again, appreciate it,
