    TechNet Problems after Nov. Update??

After the November Security Update, TechNet seems to be broken on my Win98SE box. Can anyone here verify the problem?

Check out this page: Microsoft Security Bulletin Search. Whenever I load that page I get one of two errors: either TransformResults() Exception or less often a Window::Onload() Exception. Additionally the left margin frame which is supposed to display the Topics just says "Unavailable".

    Thanks.

    R2--

The page loads from the link just fine, and you might try two of my other favorite links here:

What happens with them? I know you know the Technet Security links for a longer period of time then I do probably, and if I'm having problems with a page or IE/XP in general, usually one of the best things that can happen for me is that R2 responds in the Lounge.

Mike and SMBP - Thanks. Are you both using Win98Se and have you both applied the November Update?? If so, are you getting the weird Scrollbar behavior?

Also, are you seeing the Topic list?? Several others I have asked confirm that the Topic list is gone after this update.

I use XPP SP1 and IE6 SP1. I applied the update; scroll bar menu works fine, but rt. clicking it and clicking it again to page up or page down is worse than digging ditches with a spoon. I can hit the link and the page loads intact.

Re: TechNet Problems after Nov. Update??

This seems to be a weird bug that actually affects more than just Win98SE. The initial complaints all came from users of Win98SE -- so my initial impression was that it was limited to that OS. However, users with WinXP, WIn2K, and WinME all have complained of this now. HOWEVER, not everyone has the affliction. I have no idea why the attack is sporatic.... strange indeed.

I have WinXP, fully updated. No problems with TechNet here. This is puzzling <img src=/S/scratch.gif border=0 alt=scratch width=25 height=29>

By the way, congratulations on becoming a SilverLounger!

Re: TechNet Problems after Nov. Update??

Yep! Some have it, some don't. Likely due to exactly which Update you needed based on OS (9x, ME, 2K, XP) and IE version (5.5, 6, 6sp1). It is too difficult for me to collect enough data to sort through all of that...

When/If I have time I will try to run through each of the DLL's and identify the guilty one.

Woody's newsletter mentions the Scrollbar problems (sans the Context Menu glitches), but he did not cover the TechNet one. It is less frequent, so it is not as well-known. I suspect only a few of us geeks read TechNet anyway! <img src=/S/smile.gif border=0 alt=smile width=15 height=15>

I am using an un-patched box at this time. Here is the URL for the usual "Deeptree" Left colum that appears on TechNet:

    http://www.microsoft.com/library/shared/de....asp?frame=true

This is what does NOT appear for SOME users after the update. However, that URL is not something that I can just stick in my Address bar and go to. If I try to go to even part of that URL, I am redirected to microsoft.com.

Re: TechNet Problems after Nov. Update??

For what it is worth, the TechNet problem extends to the MSDN. Anywhere I go on either of these, the "TOC" (Table of Contents) list is "Unavailable".

On my box, but NOT on everyone's, this is due to faulty coding in this DLL:

    URLMON.DLL 6.00.2800.1282 Friday, October 17, 2003 7:15:28 PM

If I swap out that file and stick in a different one, I can now use TechNet and the MSDN just like always! Other users HAVE this same file, but don't have the problem. I have no explanation....
