    Version Numbers (97)

I am running Win98SE and have Office 97 installed. I recently installed the SR2b patch. If I click Help, About in Word it shows SR-2. In Excel it shows SR-2(n). How can I check the version numbers to satisfy myself that the SR2b patch installed in all applications correctly?

The most reliable indication is the "build" number, typically a 4-digit number after the version number (e.g., 8.5678). However, unless Microsoft posted the build numbers on the page where you got the download, it could be a bit of work to find them.

The letters in brackets represent security patches. The latest patch is number eleven that corresponds to letter k. If your version is earlier, download and install patch from Excel 97 Security Patch: KB830356 from 11/11/2003.
