    IE 5.5 backgrounds don't display (5.5)

My father's computer has Win98 SE with IE 5.5. I visit him once or twice a year. He's gone to computers kicking and screaming, clicking all over the place when he should be patient and wait. Every time I visit he seems to have done something to his software settings that requires a few hours of fixing or cleaning up.

On my latest visit I noticed that he has completly lost the ability to view backgrounds in IE. That is, if a web page should have a colored background, it shows up in white in his browser. I've loaded Netscape on his computer and it shows backgrounds just fine. I looked and looked all over IE and couldn't find any way he could have turned off the ability to view IE backgrounds.

    Any ideas?

    Many thanks.

It may be Tools | Internet Options..., Accessibility... (in the General tab). There is an option "Ignore colors specified on Web pages".
