    Truncated Menus (IE 6)

This is so basic, I'm embarassed to ask; but I can't figure it out! How do I make the menu choices always show? It was always this way until I lately had to reinstall, and now it shows only the most recently used items unless I click on the double down-arrow symbol. I've looked in the View and in Tools-->Internet Options areas and I can't see what stops this behavior. It's driving me crazy! Help?

    Re: Truncated Menus (IE 6)

Outside of MS Office, I think this is a Windows XP setting. I use old-fashioned menus, so here is how I would restore normal full menus:

    Right-click the Start button>Properties...>Customize...

Then clear the box "Use Personalized Menus" in the Advanced Start menu options list (it's all the way at the bottom).

    Does that work?

In Word, choose the "Tools" menu and select "Customize". On the multi-tabbed dialog box that follows, select the "Options" tab. Uncheck "Menus show recently used commands first". I presume the other applications have similar option possibilities.

I've looked there. I don't see "Use Personalized Menus." I've looked very carefully. I'm using XP Professional with all the latest updates....

    Re: Truncated Menus (IE 6)

In Word, in Options, my choice for "Personalized Menus and Toolbars" is to "Always show full menus," and indeed, I do always see all the menu choices in Word. But I can't find the similar place in IE. (I'm using XP Professional with all the latest updates.)

    Other ideas?

Okay, you are using the "new" Start menu, while I'm using the "Classic." What happens if... you temporarily change from the "new" Start menu to the "Classic," open its Customize... dialog, clear the box, save that, and then change back? Does it stick?

    Re: Truncated Menus (IE 6)

I changed to using the Classic menus, unchecked that box, and then rebooted (leaving Classic in place). IE still doesn't show me all of the menus in the Favorites menu (though it does display them after a delay). Is there some setting you're aware of that's maybe specific to that menu that I can check?

Tools > Internet Options > Advanced > uncheck Enable Personalized Favorites Menu. See if it takes effect immediately, if not you'll have to restart the computer.

Is that all that does? I don't want to break anything else that's set up in Favorites!

Ah, it worked without seeming to break anything. Didn't have to reboot, but did have to completely close all IE windows and then relaunch that. Thanks!
