I am helping a friend with a GATEWAY system. The system is acting up such that I think the Motherboard needs to be replaced. The board is a Intel Monterey. The processor is a x86 Family 15 Model 1 Stepping 2 GenuineIntel ~ 1795 Mhz. Do you think it is wise to replace this motherboard and where could I find sources for used Motherboards. It is out of warranty.

Re: Replacement Motherboard
If you think the MB is a goner, then replacement is not a big deal. Depending on how old the MB is, I would check to see if the CPU and the RAM is compatible with the newer board. If so you MAY be able to reuse them and save a few dollars.
I would be VERY leery about buying a used MB. With the price of new ones being very reasonable, I would say it's a "no brainer" to go New.
Check out the many sites like Motherboards about possible replacements. <img src=/S/shrug.gif border=0 alt=shrug width=39 height=15>
Long ago, there was a time when men cursed and beat on the ground with sticks. It was called witchcraft.
Today it is called golf!
