Removing arrowheads (XP)

I'd like to remove an arrowhead from a Word document. Word help tells me to click the Arrow Style button on the Drawing toolbar, and select select style 1.

But every time I click the Arrow Style button, all the options are grayed out. Any ideas what's wrong? Thanks.

Have you selected the arrow before clicking on Arrow Style?

    Yep .

    I'm attaching the document.

Instead of you removing both arrowheads, would you please tell me how to do it? Thanks.

I feel very stupid. I don't see any arrowhead in the document you attached.

The first is at the very bottom of page 1, under "the convictions of his own mind, free from the threat of force."

The second is on page 2, after the end of the essay but above the author's bio.

Those are not arrowheads, but paragraph borders. Click in the line immediately above what you call an arrowhead, then select Format | Borders and Shading... Either click None, or click on the line I indicated in the attached screenshot to remove it. Repeat for the other one.

I'm still puzzled that you call them arrowheads/

As always, that was it; thanks Hans!

I called them "arrowheads" because that's what I gathered they were from F1.

In any event, whenever I click the Arrow Style button, all the options are still grayed out. Any idea why? Thanks again!

The Arrow Style button is meant drawing objects, created with (for example) the Arrow button on the Drawing toolbar. If you hover the mouse over such an object, it will change to a four-pointed arrow, clicking will then select the object. Only then will the options in the Arrow Style menu be enabled.
