    Reset AutoNumber (2000 sr1)

I have a Db that is about to log all the trouble tickets for an issue here at work. While testing the Db for accuracy I created a bunch of table items from a form. The Primary Key is an AutoNumber.

Now that everything works I deleted the table items and want the AutoNumber to start at ONE again. It does not - Even with the table items deleted the AutoNumber picks up at the last number that USED to be there.

How can I reset it to start at 1?
    There is always a way.

In theory, Tools | Database Utilities | Compact and Repair Database... should reset AutoNumber fields. But there are problems with that in Access 2000 and with recent Jet service packs.

First, try and see if Compact and Repair works for you. If not, take a look at the following Knowledge Base articles:
AutoNumber Field Is Not Reset After You Compact a Database
Reset an AutoNumber Field Value in Access

Don't rely on the autonumbers to be any particular value OR to be continuous. The autonumber should not be used to track the tickets, only to uniquely identify the record. If you want a ticket number that is sequential, use the autonumber as the primary key and calculate a sequential ticket number for human use as an identifier.
