Is "Making sure you know your username and password" as simple as finding the correct cookie in
Cocuments and SettingsmynameCookies
which has "www.wopr.com/" in it, something like "myname@www.wopr[n].txt" (where n is 1 or 2, perhaps)
and looking for the string on line 11 which follows line 10 "Password"?
Or has the Lounge a way of sending passwords on the supply of the email address you registered with?

Ita, esto, quidcumque...
If you forget your password, you can ask for a new one which will be sent to the email address in your profile entitled "Email Address (Not available to other users)". Hence it is advisable to make sure that email address is valid!
If the cookies change, you will need to log in (even if you never log out) and to do that you will need your password.
So, make sure you know your password - if you are not sure, simply go to your profile and change it now while you have the chance.
Just checked my profile, and was pleased to see that my password is quite simple - ********.
Hey! That's the same password I use for everything!
S'Funny, my password has more characters in it than yours does - *************
John,
As Leif explained, you can use the password recovery system as long as your email address is up-to-date. The cookies are indeed stored in a filename similar to what you show, where myname is the name you use to log onto your own computer.
Alas, for security reason, the password is encrypted in your cookie, so, that want give you what you're after.

Hans,
do what I do, change your password regularly, like every 3 months or so: My password is the name of my dog. I change dogs every three months
Cheers, Claude.

The only "password recovery system" I can find is where you click on "I've forgotten my password" and Lex sends you a temporary one.
Is there any method of getting Lex to send me my current password?
Trying to sign in with a variety of "it might be this one, perhaps" passwords is probably doomed to failure...

John--
Correct me if I'm wrong, but download this and let it extract your passwords. This would preserve and/or "recover" them. and make this a non-problem.

The website is inaccessible at the moment! I can't think how it would work, since presumably my encrypted password in my WOPR Cookie is passed to the Lounge, which decrypts it on its vast bank of immensely powerful servers, and compares it with what it expects to find...

It's accessible from here John-- and when you reach it, give it a try. It's an innocuous free download. It shows up my Lounge information. It will extract and store most of your passwords--not all, (it'd take me a good while to come up with a percent figure and make them readily available to you by listing them in Notepad in its folder). I think once you see it work, you'll understand its mechanism better than I do.
To make sure they're preserved and accessible as long as I can connect to the web, I take all my passwords and important number data, ect. and email it to an account I set up for this. That way, whether I have my machine, PDA, or device, I still have them without trying to take time to set up something remote to connect to my desktop.
I picked up on this app either from R2 or Joe Perez in an IE thread a while back best I can remember.

Curious. When I run the program, I get only one OE password and numerous autocomplete fields. It doesn't list any of the numerous passwords I use for various newsletters, web sites, etc. No Lounge information or anything else.
