No keyboard or mouse (WIN XP PRO)

A friend was trying to update her logitech mouse drivers and somehow deleted some files which she should not have. Now her system starts up but she has no mouse or keyboard. Neither one will work. Is there any way to get to System Restore without a mouse or keyboard??

Is your friend using some kind of special mouse and keyboard? Have you tried other mouse/keyboard combinations? IF she has somehow deleted the generic mouse and keyboard drivers, it seems probable she may have deleted a lot more besides - which would seem to make a reinstall inevitable.

Are the mouse and keyboard USB devices?
Unplug & plug in again to see if the system sees the USB devices as new hardware.

The mouse and keyboard were PS2 connected. After reading your post, I hooked up a wireless USB mouse and keyboard and have that working now. How do I get the generic mouse and keyboard drivers back?

Try doing a Repair. If you insert your install CD, it should give the option of Repairing. If it doesn't come up immediately, choose a clean install and make sure that you select the option to choose the drive to which installation takes place during setup. You will definitely be able to Repair and then exit without a reinstall. (Expect to have to reinstall all the patches afterwards.)

You could simply try to drop the few files back into your INF folder, but it sounds like there may have been quite a bit deleted. On that basis, it seems safer to go for an overall Repair.

hi Bob, as I said, I did hook up a USB wireless mouse and keyboard and was able to "move about" Then did a repair install of WIN XP and all seems to be ok now. Thanks for your help.
