    Can't recognize modem

A friend recently installed W2000 on a Compaq computer, and it works OK except it doesn't recognize the modem or audio functions.
Running the "detect new hardware" option doesn't find them either. Any suggestions?

    Re: Can't recognize modem

Possibly the hardware you're having trouble with isn't PnP compliant. If it's an external modem, make sure it's turned on. For both internal and external types, check and re-check your connections to make sure all are firmly seated. For internal modems, sometimes changing the slot that it's installed into will make a difference.

Your best bet is to identify the modem's brand/model and find the drivers for it on the web, and then manually install it.
