    RD fields (Word 2K, SR1)

I used RD fields one time a couple of years ago, haven't used recently until today. I put in RD fields & included file name & path, as demonstrated here {RD C:MydataRosemary Blue storm scansRosemary"LSD chapter 4.doc"}. According to Word's help file, single need to be replaced with , so I did that. I tried it with and without the quotes around the document name. When I enter a TOC field above this I get a message that the document name or path is not valid. File permissions are okay and the path & document name ARE valid.

Does anyone know what the problem might be?

You might have typed the " marks in the wrong place in your post. They should go around the entire path to the file, and not just the last portion. If that doesn't work, try using the interface to create the path for you:

    (1) Use Insert>File and choose "Insert as Link" from the drop down off the Insert button
    (2) View field codes (Alt+F9) and change INCLUDETEXT to RD, also deleting any irrelevant switches at the end of the field

    Does it work?

    Hi Nancy,

From what you posted, the field should look like:
    {RD "C:MydataRosemary Blue storm scansRosemaryLSD chapter 4.doc"}

    Cheers

Thank you both. I put the quote mark at the beginning of the path & it worked great! When I read the instructions from Help, it said long file name so I assumed incorrectly that I only needed to enclose the file name in quotes.

    Hi Nancy:
Just FYI, the reason you need quotes is because of spaces in the filepath. If the path were
    CataSubFolderMyDoc.doc
you wouldn't need quotes. However, any of the following:

    CataSub FolderMyDoc.doc
    CataSubFolderMy Doc.doc
    C:My DocumentsSubFolderMyDoc.doc

would need qutoes because there is a space somewhere in the name. It's safer to use quotes all the time.
    Cheers,
