Slow Solitaire on WinXP vs Other Windows Versions (WinXP Pro Fully Patched

This isn't really a big thing, but I am curious about it. I can't help but notice the speed difference between WinXPHome and Pro and previous versions in regards to winning at Solitaire. When I win at Solitaire on my WinXP machine, the cards waterfall much slower than on my Win98 or Win2K machines. You can clearly identify each card because of the slow speed. However, if you place the mouse pointer in the area where the cards are waterfalling and move it around (but don't click), the cards fall faster while you are moving the mouse than when you are not. Why would this be the case with WinXP? It happens on all the WinXP machines I have tried it on, so it doesn't have anything to do with my setup.

    Thanks, Seymour

When Solitaire first appeared (in Windows 3.x?), the cascading when you win a game was slow. With the advent of faster processors, the cascading became faster too, until it became hard to see what was happening. For Windows XP, the cascading was deliberately slowed down, so that - as you note - you can identify the individual cards again.

Moving the mouse generates interrupts to Windows, which it then sends to Solitaire. Someone must have goofed in programming how to handle this. Probably not the highest priority in the project. <img src=/S/laugh.gif border=0 alt=laugh width=15 height=15>

Just for what it's worth....I've never looked back after tripping across Hardwood Solitaire. Wow!
