    VCR to PC

I am looking at backing up my VCRs onto DVDs. The VCR - several years old is hooked up to the PC using a SCART to S-video/Line In. The TV cable connection is recognised as such in the WinXP Network Applet. A video plays in the VCR - andthe validity of the signal can be confirmed using separate audio jacks to a stereo centre. Windows Movie Maker 2 detects the signal and "Captures from Video". What is recieved, however, is 100% black and with no sound whatsoever. Any suggestions as to what is <img src=/S/doh.gif border=0 alt=doh width=15 height=15>?

My first question would be....what GPU are you using to capture the video? Could it perhaps be a driver problem? And does/did the video card have any capturing software bundled that you can try?

The Graphics card is an ATi specifically made for a high-end (A series) IBM laptop. The drivers are up to date. The same results (as Windows Movie Maker) arise with the bundled InteerVideo WinDVD software.
