Re: TURDUCKEN (A CHICKEN IN A DUCK IN A TURKEY)

Jeffrey Steingarten has a chapter in It Must've Been Something I Ate where he describes the details of how to construct the turducken, and who invented it. It's apparently something that you can just buy and pop in the oven in some parts of the country. Out here in California, I'd expect a blank stare from behind the meat counter...

(It's a good book. Very much in the same vein as The Man Who Ate Everything. An excellent holiday gift idea for the person who loves to eat and also loves to read)

I have seen this receipe in a book on Elizabethan cookery, and therefore I suspect it is older than that.

Two Christmases ago, my sister-in-law did this and it is very good. I think the biggest concern is that it is cooked all the way through. Food poisoning is not on my Christmas wish list.

I was showing this to my wife & she informed me that she seen it pre-made in the grocery store but didn't know what it was. I may be tempted to try it.

Haven't been in the Cooking forum for a while, and your Turducken reminded me of the TOFURKEY. A turkey shaped mass of tofu and other goodies for our vegetarian friends.

Hmm, I like tofu, but I don't know if a heap of tofu the shape and weight of a turkey is attractive, even if there are lots of other ingredients...

Sounds like profanity, or maybe a rare disease that causes death and dismemberment...

Doctor: "I'm sorry sir, but you've been diagnosed with Tofurkey..."
Patient: "NOOOOoooooooo!!!!!!!!"

Hey, after reading your book recommendation, bought "The Man Who Ate Everything" I loved it. Great Choice.
