    Prevent Downloads (IE6)

I want to stop my kiddies downloading stuff, so like a good camper I went into Tools-> Options ->Security (I think) and under 'Downloads' I selected the 'Disable' radio button. I then selected the 'disable' radio button for 'Download Fonts'.

Smugly I then decided to test these new settings. I clicked on a download file and IE happily downloaded every skerrick for me. No worries.

OK, so how can I prevent IE from downloading stuff? This includes the ubiquitous "You're using v.8 of MS Media, do you want to upgrade to v.9??" If the user clicks on "Yea, sure, don't mind waiting 1hr 48mins", I want IE to spit the dummy and say "Can't Download - Currently disabled, see Dad to fix" or something similar.

    Is this possible?

    Thanks for your help.

    I just tried it & it worked for me. <img src=/S/bananas.gif border=0 alt=bananas width=33 height=35>
Just a thought... Are you sure that you had the correct zone highlighted (internet)? Make sure that the select Internet, click custom level, go to DOWNLOADS, disable "File Downloads". This should work.

Thanks guys - Because you both did the same as me I decided to look further into it - I use Download Demon, and this overrides IE's settings. Once I disabled DD, it worked as it should.

    Thanks again for your help.

Now I don't have to worry about all these pretty jumpy little icon thingys appearing all over my screen after the kids have their turn!
