MSOE.DLL error (6.x)

I get an error that msoe.dll could not be initialized when I click a news server link in IExplorer 6...

But OE runs on its own...

What wrong, and what can I do to fix it?

Regards,
Chuck Billow

Re: MSOE.DLL error (6.x)

This error can occur if a *.dbx file is set to read only.

Close Outlook Express and go to the folder where the *.dbx files are stored (search for inbox.dbx if you do not know where the folder is)
Right click on the files and select properties and make sure that read only is not selected.

Chuck--

Trying to score in every category by the end of the weekend?

If checking Read Only doesn't fix this see if you get any help from the KB:

OLEXP: Error Message "Outlook Express Could Not Be Started Because MSOE.DLL Could Not Be Loaded" When You Start Outlook Express

Unable to load MSOE.DLL (IE5.5 and OffoceXP) 28-Sep-03 00:23 OE Threads

Reinstalling OE (Should you ever need them):

Re-install Outlook Express - Click Start, Run and enter %SystemRoot%Inf. Locate the MSOE50.INF file. Right click it and select Install.

318378: How to Reinstall or Repair Internet Explorer and Outlook Express in Windows XP (Should Apply to Win 2K As Well)

Kelly's Tweaks : Line 114 Re-install Outlook Express - Enable Reinstallation of Internet Explorer or OE

After running this edit, rename the CatRoot2 folder (WindowsCatRoot2) and then go to Start/Run and enter %SystemRoot%Inf. Locate the MSOE50.INF file. Right click it and select Install.

Also there are two OE updates for IE and OE--at least one has functionailty enhancement as well as security hotfixes for OE and since OE as well as Outlook has some direct dependency on OE I'd make sure I had them installed:

October 2002, Security Update for Outlook Express (Q328676)

Cumulative Security Update for Internet Explorer 6 (KB824145)

Dude!... I'm not even warmed up yet -- but at my best I don't think I could touch some of the posters (whom this might be I wouldn't know...)

But the pages and info help... thanks...

Now I looking at RSS readers, since OE can't deal with them as yet...

NewsGator is interesting as it works *in* Outlook, not just "in conjunction with"... FeedDemon is looking good top, as it is developed by the Nick Bradbury of TopStyle fame...

Re: MSOE.DLL error (6.x)

Can Chuck Billow get into too much trouble with an RSS?? Yes, but probably not with his computer. I have one I like the best and its this one and I guess Wildgrape NewsDesk is possibly more socially and politically correct than something named Amphatadesk--no telling what could happen there. If anyone ever dares to say you don't have a clue, you can print out this webpage and tell them you cover 7,191 news sources every day and you suck them into one web page with your RSS and that ought to put them in their place.

Wildgrape's NEWSDESK My Favorite and Uses .net technology

SMBP:

You said nothing 'bout FeedDemon , or, for that matter, NewsGator ... and what was the one review I read on NewsDesk ... "isn't free"... not really a problem, but I couldn't find any pricing...

Chuck

]For RSS, try Feedreader. Its is very stable and . More discussion in <post#=274578>post 274578</post#>.
