Image behind text (MS Word 2000/SP3)

I am stumped again! I put an image Behind Text using Format, Picture, Layout. Now I cannot find a way to select the image as I wish to change it. Also although the image from the display appears behind the text when I print the page the image is in front of the text! I am finding Help unhelpful!

    Can anyone help please?

    1. Make sure you display the Drawing toolbar. Click the "Select objects" button on this toolbar (the hollow NW arrow), so that this button is "down". Now you can use the mouse to select images and other objects. If you want to use the mouse to select text again, click the "Select objects" button so that it is "up".

    2. Perhaps HOW TO: Place Text Over a Graphic in Word 2000 helps.

    Hans,

Thank you for your help. I have changed the image & noticed from the MSKB article that it is necessary to repeat setting the image behind text procedure for the it to be successful. But I still left with the problem that although the monitor display shows the image behind the text when I print the image is in front! Previously this wasn't a problem & it is beyond me as to what has changed. Have you any suggestions please?

What type of printer are you using? There have been issues with HP LaserJets, if I remember correctly, the recommendation was to edit the printer settings to print Truetype fonts as graphics.

Thank you for that; I using a HP LaserJet 4L. (Old but dependable somewhat like me!)

The option to print TrueType Fonts as graphics isn't available. In Advanced Options there are two options in the Graphic settings: the default is Substitute with Device Font & the other Download as Softfont. I have tried the alternative but nothing changed. What is puzzling me is that I had stisfactory printing previously. And the problem occurs printing with my HP 970Cxi DeskJet.

    Hi Malcolm:
I don't have an answer to your printing problem, but wanted to mention that to speed up sending the graphic behind text, you can press F4 after you've done it the first time. That repeats the last action. i.e. Format/Picture/Wrapping/Send behind text & then F4 the second time. I suppose that a macro that applied the setting twice might work faster.

I have reconstructed the document & there is no change to the printing behaviour. The file size is 34KB; if I attach it would you or someone have a look at for me?

You can attach files up to 100 KB; zipping will reduce the file size and make downloading faster.

You can be sure that someone will look at the document.

Thank you; it is attached; now 14 KB. From later today I am going to be away for several days. So a lack of response will not infer any lack of acknowledgement or discourtesy. When I am back in circulation I will respond to any message(s) waiting for me.

In the meantime thanks in anticipation. Malcolm

I think it must be a problem with the printer driver. I printed the document (using Word 2002 SP-2, I don't have Word 2000) without modifying it in any way to two different HP LaserJets (a 4000 and a 4100); the image was printed behind the text on both, the print looked the same as the print preview on screen.

Thank you for that Hans; your assistance obviously has narrowed the source down as you say to the printer driver.

I'm signing off now & will take this up again on my return. I really do appreciate your help; please accept my sincere thanks.

FWIW, I have Word 2000 SP-3. I printed it to an Epson 880 and to Scansoft's Paperport (a document manager with doc images), and both times the graphic was in front of the text. I even double-checked the settings in Layout (Behind Text).

It prints correctly to my HP Deskjet 990Cxi using Word 2002 SP2 on Windows XP Pro SP1
