The browser thinks you are accessing a password protected site. Try running Spybot or AdAware to see whether there is a tracking cookie on your system that needs to be removed. Details are in Star <post#=296439>post 296439</post#>. HTH

    Braddy--

Why not open regedit and do searches Edit>Find>Find Next F3 and see if you can find any keys. If so, set a restore point if your OS has SR and the gui is lookin' a lot like XP and delete any such keys that have this in them if they exist.

Also can you search for any files?

Further, do a search on Spybot's forums because sometimes they add files and you may get a clue--a quick and I'll do a more thorough search didn't turn up anything. When you run Adaware, make sure to click on the globe on the tool bar to make sure you update to the latest data base.

    Re: crs akamai.cm (IE6)

You are looking at a relatively complicated issue there...

Why does it appear with every page change?? I am not sure why that would be. Very strange.

One possible very simple solution is to just block that web address. Do you use a Hosts file?? I suspect not, but...

Search for a file named "Hosts" (no extension). If you find it, open it with Notepad and see what is inside. Look for ANYTHING that has this number associated with it: 65.216.112.59 -- or any similar such number.

OK, if that is a wild goose chase, then find a file named Hosts.sam. This is the "Sample" Hosts file. Note its exactly location. Then, Open Notepad and create a new file with only the following as its contents:

    127.0.0.1 crs.akamai.com

Save this file in the exact folder that Hosts.sam is in -- but name it "Hosts" with no extension. Close and reopen IE -- what happens with this problem??

What sites does this happen on? Many, many companies use Akamai's network for load balancing/regional distribution, so a minor mistake at Akamai could affect numerous sites. But I would not expect it to affect, for example, the Lounge.

    Hi

I ran Spybot and Adaware a couple of more times and the problem seem to have gone away, thanks for your reply.

    Hi

Youre correct of course because of my annoyance I tended to exagerate a bit, after running spybot a couple or more time it appears to have gone away.

    Thanks for your reply

Glad to hear the problem is resolved. By the way, we encourage a single "thank you" post (see <!rule=7>Rule 7<!/rule> for suggestions). Helps with the database size and page load time.

That makes more sense! I could not figure out how EVERY page would have a link to akamai!

    Braddy--

I don't know if akami has to do with a server name or server function, but I do know and another thread having to do with Windows update brought me to links like this one, that after Blaster hit and gave them some problems, Microsoft used akami to redirect the adress to Windows Update:

Also you might take a look at some of this info on Akami in connection with Windows Update for the future--then again you may never have the problem again, especially if you run the duo of Spybot and Adaware regularly:
