    Deleted Icon

One of our users deleted the icon for the CD drive from "My Computer" and I would like to know how to restore it. It is an NT box with SP6.

    Thanks

NT detects the drives at startup. It wouldn't be possible for your user to 'delete' the CD-ROM icon, it just can't be done!

Open up the computer, disconnect the CD-ROM drive Then,
Boot up the computer, and shut it down again.
Next, reconnect the CD-Rom Drive, and hit del to enter setup when the system first starts.
Check the Bios to ensure that the appropriate option is selected to make the CD-Rom drive Active, (this is generally done by setting the primary slave to auto-detect.)
This *should* resolve your problem, unless your user has installed software which prevents the CD-ROM from being accessed.

If all else fails, go to the www.driverguide.com, uname drivers pwd all, and search for your CD-ROM's manufacturer to download a driver for NT.

These are the steps I would take to troubleshoot your problem.

    Hope that helps!

Thanks. A cold reboot did the trick.
