    streaming through network (XP Home)

    Hello,

I have a small LAN with three computers at work. I am trying to be a nice boss and let employees using the Internet to listen to music. We have a problem getting a radio station to play on the two machines that access the Internet via my machine. I keep getting error code C00D1198 whick tells me I need to set my proxy server settings.

IE works fine and take us right to the web site of the station that the employee wants to listen to. It is a local Christian radio station that is also streaming over the Internet.

I have set the server settings to auto detect and I have set them manually. Any help will be much appreciated.
    TIA,

    Bret

Bret, You may not have the bandwidth to play on more than one PC at a time. What is the speed of the network cards in the PCs? What speed are the PCs? What kind of connection to the Internet do you have? Are you running a proxy server? If so, which one? Are you running a firewall? My best guess is that your PC can't handle the load.

    Thanks for the reply Joe.

    All good questions:
    1. Cable Modem for the Internet connection.
    2. All PC's over 2.6 ghz
    3. Analog X is the proxy server. It works fine for Internet access.
    4. I have temporarily disabled the firewall to see if that was the problem. No joy.
    5. As far as the load, I have only tried to stream using one computer at a time.

    Thanks again Joe.

    I'm stumped.

Bret, What software is being used to play the stream? Can it be played on our PC? Could be a problem with ICS. Don't know much about that. If you are using WMP see this link for some useful info: http://"]http://www.nwlink.com/~zachd/pss/pss.html">http:// http://www.nwlink.com/~zachd/pss/pss.html[/url]

<P ID="edit" class=small>(Edited by jscher2000 on 01-Dec-03 18:37. Product suggestion added.)</P> <img src=/S/whisper.gif border=0 alt=whisper width=29 height=17> Since it's a local station, it might be nicer to just buy them some radios and not slow down access for the others.

Seriously, emergency radios are "hot" right now. The Grundig FR200 "wind-up" radio is a thoughtful item, if a bit ugly. And for a limited time it can be obtained for <img src=/S/free.gif border=0 alt=free width=30 height=15> at Good Guys stores in Northern California (you need to download the coupon).

    Jefferson

I can't let your comment about the Grundig wind-up radio pass without mentioning the original inventor of the concept, Trevor Bayliss, whose wind-up Baygen radio was intended for the African subcontinent, where batteries for a conventional radio cost more than a week's (month's?) average wages...

(In the link, I rather liked the potable radios typo - an entirely new refreshment concept!)

There in lies the reasoning for this, if the station could be picked up inside the building the problem would be solved. Nice low tech answer, but it doesn't work.

    Thanks,
    Bret
