    Email Address Display (2002)

In 98, you would see a person's email address in their contact as "jdoe@acme.com" When selected for email, you would only see "John Doe" in the To: field of the email. Now in XP, you still see the same in the contact, but the email shows "John Doe <jdoe@acme.com>" I personally like this, but have a user who wants it the old way. I've looked and can't find any place to change it back. Is it even possible? Thanks in advance.

    Re: Email Address Display (2002)

In OL '98 addresses depended on how the user entered the e-mail address, or the source of the Address Book, and were not necessarily as you describe.

In OL 2000 up, how they display depends on both how they have been entered and the source of the Address Book. From what you describe, I'm guessing that they are now in an Outlook Address Book which is sourced from Contacts. Speak up if that's not so. <img src=/S/smile.gif border=0 alt=smile width=15 height=15> The reason that OL 2000 up moved to "JohnBF <hendrixfan@experience.org>" is to better handle multiple e-mail addresses in Contacts for the same person; if you had 3 e-mail addresses that all showed as "JohnBF" how would you choose?

If that's the case, in OL XP I think the "File As" display name for the Contact plus the underlying address shows in the Address Book, but that can be changed by editing the Display Field for each e-mail address in the Contact record. If you are interested, the attached code will set the e-mail Display Names in the preferred format, which I understand to be "JohnBF" instead of "JohnBF <hendrixfan@experience.org>", if there is only one e-mail address. If there are more addresses, it sets the second and third in the format "Name - Domain", e.g. "JohnBF - experience". If that isn't acceptable, advise how multiple e-mail address should show.

Be sure to back up all Contacts before using the code, and also initially test it on a copy of the Contacts Folder(s) to see that it is working correctly. The code must be run against each Contacts Folder.
