    my computer stopped making sound

My hard disk was filling up, so I began enthusiastically deleting files. Eventually since this did not help, I posted this problem on the Win95 forum & DrkRealm solved it in 60 seconds! THANKS! THANKS! THANKS!

But, well, um, after one particularly enthusiastic session of deleting files, my computer stopped making sound. :-( I mean the little beeps that tell you something happened & say a Napster file, etc. I can still hear the hard drive working. :-) No, I did Not back-up anything. :-| No I did not archive the files before deleting them. :-| Wait just a moment. OK, I

What happens if you double click on a .wav file?

Click on File, Find, Files or Folders.

In the named box, type *.wav, make sure that 'My Computer' is being used as the 'Look in' Drive.

Double click on any one of the results.. what happens? (Make sure your speakers are plugged in and volume is 'hearable')...

My foremost appologies, as a tech, I present solutions with the thinking that the user has no brains whatsoever.. (just to be on the safe side) That's not to say I think you're dumb, just my nature.. <img src=/S/grin.gif border=0 alt=grin width=15 height=15>

Did the Windows Media player come up when you clicked on your .wav?

Has your sound been 'Muted' or volume turned down, check by right clicking the Yellow speaker in the lower right corner of the screen and open the "Volume Control"

Re: my computer stopped making sound

Hey this is way spooky! Last night, per your advice, I checked whether the sound was muted. Something (I forget which one, sorry.) was muted. I reset it and ran a .wav file to see if the sound was then working. But NO my sound was still dead. This morning after receiving my email, the computer beeped. To check, I ran Encarta. Encarta talked to me. I fired up a site I knew with RealPlayer. That worked.

Last night my sound was dead. This morning it is miraculously alive. What day is it today? What else happened today? Is this a bit too spooky, huh?

BUT I just ran a .wav file. They STILL do not work. [No Windows Media Player is NOT muted. :-) ]. So it

Some systems have been know to have a sticky mute until a reboot has been performed.
