    Help, I'm getting a headache! <img src=/S/wink.gif border=0 alt=wink width=15 height=15>

    Well, first, if section 2 is going to have independent numbering (i.e., numbering restarts at 1) you might consider whether you can simply substitute SECTIONPAGES for NUMPAGES in your original field-formula (to coin a phrase).

    If you prefer to set your own values for reference by a formula, look for macropod's star post on the Word board with numerous examples of complex fields for more guidance.

    Re: fields in Footer (Eng/XP Office Small Bus)

    Help! I have a headache from this thing!
    Using section pages solves one problem. Thanks.
    My original document is 4 pages. There is a Header on the 1st page containing a table and only text (company info). The 2nd page header has the specific page number field only: {page}.
    All footers have the page equation as noted in the first posting.
    My macro has a form to gather Faxing info. The macro takes the info, adds a section break at the beginning of the original doc. The fax info is used to create a fax cover page. The macro then checks the page numbering in the header and footer of the orig doc, now section 2, to return the numbers to theie original values.
    When I use the following to restart the page numbering of section 2:
    ActiveDocument.Sections(2).Headers(wdHeaderFooterF irstPage) _
    .PageNumbers.RestartNumberingAtSection = True
    The page numbering starts at ZERO. I do not understand. What am I missing?

    Also I have not been able to find the search function to followup on your lead of complex fields. Is there a config parameter that I need to change?
    The help file indicates that I should find the search box to the right of the show threads box but my screen is blank to the right.
    Ideas?

    Alas, the search function has been disabled - see <!post=Temporary suspension of Search facility,250092>Temporary suspension of Search facility<!/post>. You will have to trawl through the forum for threads with likely-looking subjects. Perhaps <!profile=macropod>macropod<!/profile> himself can provide some links.

    You're close. You also need to set:

    .StartingNumber = 1

    Check out the example in the VBA help for RestartNumberingAtSection for more information.

    Regarding macropod's Star post, all star posts are listed and linked in the very first post on the Lounge Matters board. Links from the past 7 months are still live, the others are in cryogenic storage...

    <P ID="edit" class=small>(Edited by macropod on 08-Dec-03 12:01. More flexible alternative field added)</P>Hi,

    Seeing as how I've been nominated twice already for this task, you might like to try this compound field:
    {IF{=OR({PAGE}={NUMPAGES},{=AND({NUMPAGES}<>{SECTI ONPAGES},{PAGE}=1)})}= 1 "" "

    Thank you to everyone and especially to Macropod for the equation to handle additional section numbering. After some scrutinizing, I finally am very comfortable with it.
    I now have this one under control and I have a smile. No headaches!
