    Word (word (office xp 2000))

Quite frequently, Word shuts down with a run-time error, usually, but not always, during a file close. I have just installed a whole new office suite and the problem still occurs.
Grateful for any help from users who may have experienced this problem.
    Thanks

You can try the steps outlined in Phil Rabichow's <!post=Systematic Approach to Behavioral Problems in Word (97/2000),197827>Systematic Approach to Behavioral Problems in Word (97/2000)<!/post>.

Re: Word (word (office xp 2000))

This may be caused by Outlook... in Office XP, Outlook uses Word as the E-Mail Editor. This causes funny things to happen to Word (Iike unexpected Exiting, not be able to Open (I think MS fixed this problem). However, I am not a big fan of Word being the E-Mail editor because it uses too many resources on your system, as well as inflates the size of a simple e-mail message from 1Kb to >10 kb. Try turning this option off and using HTML as the e-mail editor in Outlook, Tools, Options, Mail Format Tab and uncheck Use Word as E-Mail Editor. Ensure HTML is now your message format.

If you have the need to do extra formatting in an e-mail, do it per e-mail, by selecting the Inbox and choosing Actions, New Mail Message Using, and select Microsoft Word.

Hope this is the answer to your problems... have a good one... trish

What is the error? Is there an autoclose macro list among your macros?

    Hi, Darryl,
I'm not a very sophisticated user, I'm afraid, and am not sure where to look for an autoclose macro - I have not created any macros myself.
    Perhaps you could elucidate?
Unfortunately the error message shows only very briefly - it says something about a runtime error in winword, but I haven't been able to read it completely, since it shuts down!
Thanks for any additional info you can offer.
    Mary

With Word open, go to: Tools, Macro, Macros and look for an autoclose macro there.
