    Protection Problem With Excel (2000 & 97)

Just finished a workbook in Excel 2000 that will be sent to Users around the world. The Users all have 2000 or 97. The Sheets are protected allowing Users access to certain cells. All US Users who tested could put data in unlocked cells

Gave out a few version to have international users check the workbook. Some users stated they were unable to put any data on the sheets because the entire sheet was protected.

Does anyone have a solution other than sending out the Workbook with the Sheets unprotected.

Protecting a worksheet after unlocking specific cells should work, it is not dependent on local settings. I would try to make absolutely sure that the users knew what they were doing. <img src=/S/evilgrin.gif border=0 alt=evilgrin width=15 height=15>

If you wish, you can post a dumbed down demo copy of your workbook (just one worksheet, if possible, with all proprietary information removed). There are Loungers around the globe who could test it.

Thank you for the valuable information. Based on your response, and an article on the Microsoft Knowledge Base we were able to resolve the problem. It now works on both 2000 and 97.
