    MOBSYNC

Following the information from MS on this file, I unchecked all the boxes in the Synchronize tool, and then, using Mike Lin's Startup tool, I unchecked mobsync.exe from the startup process...

MS puts it back when Win2K starts up.

Why? IS it "harmful"? Is it necessary?

Even if not, and I know that (possibly) there is no real need for the removal, I am baffled and (a bit) concerned with any program that decides on its own to start up.

mobsync.exe::::> MS Syncrhonization Manager - updates the network copy of materials that were edited offline, such as documents, calendars, and e-mail messages .

I have it turned off on my wifes Win2000 Laptop, but I used Win2000 MSCONFIG and it stayed turned off with no problems. MSCONFIG is the same Windows Application{Startup Manager} used in WinXP. You can download it from the link above.

Once you get it installed, all you have to do is go to Start, Run, and type MSCONFIG. Click on the Startup Tab. It will look just like the one below. Find mobsync.exe and uncheck it. Reboot, a window will come up after you reboot, check "don't show this message again" or something like that, and your ready to go.

    Needs a sumpin'...

MS seems to have caught me on this one... but I cannot believe that there is no way around it... I wonder if it has somthing to do with the WFP again... so that if I renamed that it would stop the "recovery"...

I believe it can be controlled by:
Windows Explorer > Tools > Folder Options > Offline Files
and make sure the option to "Enable Offline Files" is disabled.
