Total number of hours (Excel 97 sr1)

I have a simple table and am trying to sum the column of elapsed times. What's the problem with my formula in cell E38? I found that some cells are causing the sum to register as 0:00 when I add them manually. Ex: E6+E7+E8=0:00, but E6+E7=16:00. See attached file please.

    Format elapsed time:
    [h]:mm

if you format it as "time" h:mm the hours can not be greater than 24

    Select cell E29
Format - cells - number tab
    Click on the "Custom" Category
    The format "type" is currently:

h:mm

    Change it to:

[h]:mm

    and your displayed "12:35" [= 12:35 PM]
will change to "156:35" (156 hours and 35 minutes)
