    Toolbar problem (Windows X)-SR-2)

I turned on the Desktop toolbar by accident one time and now everytime the computer boots, the Desktop toolbar comes on although I have repeatedly turned it off. I cannot find out how to permanently turn off the Desktop toolbar so that it doesn't keep coming up when I reboot.

Please define "Desktop toolbar " and give us a screen shot of it.

Now running HP Pavilion a6528p, with Win7 64 Bit OS.

If you right-click an empty part of the Windows task bar, and select Toolbars from the popup menu, Desktop is one of the options. It is similar to the Quick Launch toolbar, but displays the icons you put on your desktop. The problem is mentioned a few times in the MS newsgroups, without a solution.

    Dave,

Here's a ScreenShot of the Desktop Toolbar. It's activated by right clicking on the taskbar and choosing Toolbars from the dropdown and then Desktop from the second dropdown. To turn it off repeat the process and uncheck Desktop by clicking on it.

Thanks, I now know what is being asked.

Just turned it on, rebooted, it was there. Turned it off, rebooted and it was NOT there.

Now running HP Pavilion a6528p, with Win7 64 Bit OS.

    Hans:

Thanks for the info. I guess I will just keep poking about to figure out where the information is stored in the registry. No luck so far.

I looked in the registry and didn't see it either. I thought it might be under Internet Explorer (rather than WindowsExplorer) but that wasn't very revealing either.

If you experiment with the Lock The Taskbar setting when you restart, does that make any difference?

Sorry to have to report that I had the same luck Dave did - turned it on, then off, with a couple of reboots in between and it doesn't persist. Surprisingly in my case, it turns out I LIKE the darn thing, so I think I'll keep it around. Can't tell you how many times a day I have to hit Win-D to get to my desktop, so this is a nice toolbar to have.
