Update Links (XP and 2000)

Four people in the building all running the spreadsheets I created from my macros.
The macro set up a hyperlink and a link to the next level.

=Ecfile1SharedDepartmentalAccountingACCNTNGBu dgetingBudgetInProgress
ProductLinePCA_FP01_200010.XLS!AprilBudTotal

Person 1 (me [consultant]): Windows 2000 - Excel XP/SP2 -- files do not update until closed and re-opened
Person 2 (mgr): Windows XP - Excel XP -- files update properly
Person 3 (customer): Windows 2000 - Excel 2000 -- goes to lowest level and makes a change.
. Saves and next level up does not update. Have to go to each cell and click in formula to force a change or close and re-open.
Person 4 (customer): Windows XP - Excel 2000 -- files do not update until closed and re-opened

Is there some setting in Calculation that I am missing? I have compared all settings included Web Links.

Network group assures me that this is Excel related (what do they know?) and not Windows server or profiles.

Re: Update Links (XP and 2000)

Not sure this is answer, but each user may have their Edit Links Start Up Prompt set differently. Ask each User what their setting is for Editing Links. If settings are different then you need Macro code to change that setting to what you want when the workbook opens.

Hope this helps,

Hi Alan,

Four Excel settings to check on all PCs:

1. Tools|Options|Calculation and make sure 'Automatic' is selected.
2. Tools|Options|Calculation and make sure 'Update remote references' is checked.
3. Tools|Options|Calculation and make sure 'Save external link values' is checked.
4. Tools|Options|Edit and make sure 'Ask to update automatic links' is checked.

Cheers

Re: Update Links (XP and 2000)

I found something that works after checking the settings on all the machines and finding them to be identical.

Add
ActiveWorkbook.UpdateLink Name:=ActiveWorkbook.LinkSources

to a macro that recomputes something else.

It is not a perfect workaround be it will get me out of the dog house.
