[Georgia] vs. GA flag

I found an interesting bug with the Georgia state flag on the Lounge.

(The GA state flag actually changed again this year since the Lounge flags were updated. The one in your list is the interim flag used in place of the one with the Confederate symbol. That, however, is a side note.)

Apparently, Georgia must be the only US state (and Republic, to be fair) that also is a font!

When I tried to insert the Georgia flag in a message, like so, [ Georgia ] (without the spaces) the font of the message changed! To illustrate, I'll put one here : Hereafter, my message uses the Georgia font.

Now, in my book, this is a VERY low priority problem. I've been posting here on and off for years and never thought to use my state flag. Even if you fix it, I probably won't use it. However, it was weird to see the "mysterious" font change.

Just thought I'd point it out for future reference!

Hey - thanks for the warning. I hope the next time I post I don't end up with

You can avoid that problem by using
<!t>[image]www.wopr.com/S/flags/Georgia.gif[/image]
(with exact case) to get

... and what about the Commonwealths, eh?

Fonts with the names of places/states/countries, other than Georgia?

Algerian (possibly the most horrible font in the known universe, other than the fun/grotesque font styles)
Tahoma (site of famous collapsing bridge...)

Aachen (also known as Aix-la-Chapelle)
Carolina (a BitStream font)
Claivaux (ditto)
Herculanum (ditto)
WiesbadenSwing (BitStream/Linotype)

... and so on (I got bored...)

Steve

Hardly picky! I was just plain wrong (I blame the assonance...!).

Bowlie

I know "Swiss" was a very trivial rework of Helvetica, renamed to avoid copyright problems, but was Geneva the same (but originally for the Mac, originally pre-TrueType)?

Later...
"Apple system font designed as a bitmap by Susan Kare. Its name reflects the intention to imitate those epitomes of the Swiss style in type design, Helvetica and Univers. "

Oooh! "Univers"--perhaps the ultimate example!

As in "Life, the Univers and Everything" (Douglas Adams)?
