    Separating data in cells (Excel XP)

    I have a date and time stamp in a cell that looks like this;
    11/3/2003 10:44
    I want to separate out the time to a new cell. Is there a formula that will allow me to do that?

    Personally I would keep them together it makes calc with time/date easier.

    You can format to display both date and time together ['mmm d, yyyy hh:mm am/pm"]

    If you want to display the date and time in separate cells, I would still keep them together but just put (assuming A1) has the date/time:
    =A1
    and format A1 as date ("mmm d, yyyy") [or whatever]
    and the other cell as time( "hh:mm AM/PM") [or whatever]

    Now both cells have the same number, just formatted differently and either one can be used for calcs.

    If you really want to remove the time from the date (again, I stress, not recommended) you can use:
    =mod(a1,1)
    which will keep just the decimal portion (which is the time portion).
    Format as desired for the time display.

    If the date and time are in A1, then you can put =A1 in the cell where you want the time and format that cell for the time format you want.
