Outlook won't open online after closing offline (Outlook 2002, SP-2)

Outlook 2002, SP-2 running on XP Pro SP-1. Outlook is configured to prompt for "Connect" or "Work Offline." After closing an offline session, Outlook no longer prompts for a connection state and immediately opens offline. I've waited as long as 10 minutes before re-opening Outlook but still can't get the prompt. Logging off and back onto Windows is the only way to regain the prompt. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

I'm not familiar with this feature, but it's possible that an other program has kept the OUTLOOK.EXE process running in memory. Next time, before restarting Windows, try closing any applications that have interacted with Outlook (e.g., Word, Internet Explorer), and check the Processes tab in the Task Manager to see if Outlook is still running.

You're right. The Outlook process is still running after closing an Outlook offline session. Once I stop that process Outlook prompts for a connection state. Nothing else is visibly open, so I'll have to find what other process is running that's causing this. Thanks for the tip.
